The EU’s Dependence on Russian Gas: How an Integrated EU Policy can Reduce it
According to the AIV, the EU needs to take measures to reduce the gas dependency of those member states that import more than 50% of their gas from Russia. The primary means of achieving this lies in strengthening interconnectivity between the EU’s pipelines and in extra gas storage. Another key measure is increasing reverse flows in the networks, which ensures that gas can be piped in both directions. Good results have already been achieved, but better connections between Eastern and Western Europe are needed.
