Iran’s Nuclear Programme: Towards De-escalation of a Nuclear Crisis

In this advisory letter to the Dutch government, the AIV favours a thorough reflection on the question of whether new avenues could be explored in the diplomatic process as regards the political crisis surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme. The present international controversy surrounding the programme entails grave security risks, while there is no hard evidence that Iran will possess a nuclear weapon at any point in the near future. It would therefore be better to de-escalate the conflict and seek fresh diplomatic initiatives that result in a long-term solution.
