Military Cooperation in Europe: Possibilities and Limitations

As long as European countries – including the Netherlands – cling to their sovereign decision-making authority in matters of defence, military cooperation will not result in genuinely more effective European defence, and the fragmentation that currently prevails will continue. At a time when many intentions are being expressed concerning European military cooperation, the AIV explores, at the government’s request, the practical possibilities and limitations in this area.
